Celebrating the Tastes of the Season…Sustainably

This Friday celebrate the launch of The Positive Plate, an Orange County food sustainability initiative, at A Taste of Fall in Irvine. Enjoy food from 8 of OC’s greenest restaurants including Sol Cocina, Avanti Cafe, Sage, Haven Gastropub, Taco Asylum, Duke’s, Haute Cakes, and Xanh Bistro. Your ticket includes all food, a hosted bar from The Organic Cellar, The Bruery, and Ocean Vodka, plus entertainment, and a silent auction.

Michael Castro from American Idol fame will be performing live, along with the Common Kings and Jacob Luttrell. Goods from 31 Bits, Krochet Kids, and Ruby Blaise Aromatherapy, plus a 6 week Wines of the World course, will be up for grabs at the silent auction.

Growing a Food Revolution

Eugene Cooke has been growing food and developing creative, community partnerships for over a decade. He believes that artistic expression and sustainable living are the keys to a vibrant social system and has traveled around the world exploring different methods of food growing practices.

This Saturday join Eugene at the Center for Living Peace as he discusses food sustainability as it relates to his recent travels to Kenya. He will be applying what he has been learned about sustainable community development in rural and urban east, to our own urban areas in the United States.

Take a stroll through the UCI Farmer’s Market before the presentation begins at 11am, and enjoy tasty bites from Avanti Cafe once you arrive. The local non-profit m.a.m.a.earth will be hosting this insightful event, and tickets can be purchased in advance by clicking here.

Ectoberfest at The Ecology Center

Join the folks over The Ecology Center this Saturday from 3-5pm to celebrate Ecotoberfest! Matty Gilliand, from the award winning, sustainably produced New Belgium Brewing, will be talking about talk the magic that goes into each glass. Sample a unique collection of New Belgium Brewing’s finest and snack on the perfect Ecotoberfest pairing of pretzels and mustard courtesy of Ryan Wilson of SideDoor in Corona Del Mar. Tickets are $15 for members and $25 for non-members.
